Wind Quintet No. 2
Thanks to advances in the construction of wind instruments, the wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon) emerged as a new formation at the beginning of the 19th century. Cambini’s three Quintetti concertanti from 1802 were the pioneers of the genre, followed by Reicha’s 25 quintets from 1814 onwards. These works show remarkable musical inventiveness at a time when instruments were developing rapidly.
