Put a piano, violin, cello, horn and clarinet together and it sounds heavenly! From playful Bohemian folk melodies to dramatic German romanticism, Zdenĕk Fibich's unique quintet has it all!
The fact that the music of Zdenĕk Fibich (1850-1900) is less well known than that of other Czech composers such as Dvorák and Smetana has everything to do with his secular life and his openness to other cultures. This led to a lukewarm reception from the more conservative Czech public and even to his expulsion from the Prague National Theatre and Conservatory.
Horn player Jonathan van der Beek has resurrected the disowned composer, performing Fibich's Quintet with four Leuven-based colleagues. They explore this hidden gem of chamber music in which winds, strings and piano dialogue in a unique way.
